This is the most ridiculous thing on the face of the planet. Can anyone tell me why I have that stupid logo and third party affiliate on MY auction page when I checked NO COUNTER??

I am going to revoke my Sellathon authorization. I received no reply to an email support ticket. I do not understand how or why it's any better. It won't even track my auctions! Mad

Why are you posting here, listing here, and selecting no counter here, but then filing the support case with Sellathon?

I didn't avoid your question. If you select no counter you get no counter. The only way we add a counter is if a counter is selected.

I'd suggest checking your profile and making sure your counter setting is off and then revising your running listings if you'd like to remove the counter.
Gee, I don't know. Maybe because Sellathon and Auctiva are connected? Maybe because even when I DO select "no counter" the Kick It Back counter ends up on my auctions anyway? Maybe because it's a big huge PITA to have to go into listings and remove the Kick It Back HTML? Myabe because I am getting no satisfactory answers no matter who I ask?

I'm curious~where in the world did you learn such fantastic customer service skills?
Here is the reply I finally received from Sellathon:

As for "KickItBack appearing within your listings, http://www.kickitback.com is one of the affiliate sites owned by our parent company the Auctiva corporation, and is basically a site that allows eBay buyers to earn up to 1% cash back on one's eBay purchases by initiating those purchases from the KickItBack site! The Sellathon counters are being re-branded as the "KickItBack" counters and you will begin to see this from now on.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you,
Sellathon Support

So, Auctiva IS the place to come for answers, we just won't get any here.
I have always selected "no counter" -I am happy just to use an ebay counter.
Still, I have a kickitback counter on all my listings and anyone selecting to view my other items is directed to kickitback website first.
I am reconsidering continuing to use Auctiva if
I can't remove this "feature".
Is it just me or is Auctiva starting to get nearly as arrogant as ebay. Introducing unwanted features without notice and no obvious opt-out selection is a sure way of upsetting people.

Jeff
I need to ask a similar question.
Ebay seems to be removing Listings [moderator: please see my post below as this is not true] with the Kickitback Link.

What confuses me is the fact there is always and always has been a Link to Auctiva in my Listings anyway!
I have no problem with the Auctiva promotion as they are doing me a favour with their great Software. However, Kickitback was not asked for nor required by me. Just the Counter.

The other question is; How do I remove the damn Link? It doesn't show up in the Ebay Edit!
Last edited by auctivajeff
It does show up on ebay revise if you look at the html, easiest way is to use turbolister to revise your listings, you can just cut the icon out in design view.

Kickit back just seems to promote ebay sales so i dont see exactly why ebay would object to it, hopefully auctiva will talk to them about it.

I dont like it because it takes people away from my listings.
Thanks for that awinner.
I've just done that very thing. The hardest part was deciding which bit to delete and which bit to leave in. I'm no expert with HTML but do know basics.
Anyone not sure should do a preview before hitting continue or you may destroy your Listing altogether.

I agree with your reasoning about what Kickitback is promoting but Ebay can be very quick to remove a Listing. However, I also wonder if this was the actual problem for the Auctions being pulled.
Also, I don't remember ever being notified about the new Counter.
i have over 400 active listings and everyone has the damm thing on them, so what am I supposed to do revise everyone????
Am not good with html and have no idea where to start so am installing turbo lister, not used it for years and will see if i can remove them that way
Cant afford to lose them all and e bay seem intent on getting rid of them
NO RESPONSE FROM SUPPORT RE THIS ISSUE
If you don't want a counter select "No Counter." It does work correctly. I have verified through both the get "HTML" icon feature on the saved listings page and via preview.

I have not heard of any listings being ended anywhere. Sometimes an over zealous or new eBay rep makes a bad choice or liberally applies some rule to end listings. I don't know if that is what happened. Sometimes a seller interprets a generic ended email from eBay to mean it's something other than why it was ended. We'll have to sort this out with eBay if I can find someone who's got an email from eBay saying this is the reason.
Again, I have heard 0 people who have had this happen. I think you are wasting your time. It's sad that a simple rumor has this cause on sellers. The way eBay has people in fear like this is shameful.

Here is the UK thread, read the whole thread. The seller does not know why their listing was ended. Why do we have 20 million counters on eBay and then this 1 seller has 1 listing ended and everyone goes crazy?
http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?messageID=1206419174

It's irresponsible for people to be saying these things like a few of the posters above have, with zero facts and without confirming anything. They are only adding to the problem.
With the counters in 20 million listings believe me I'd know if eBay didn't want them. They wouldn't resort to killing 1 listing at a time, they'd have their lawyers call me. They did this once in 2001 for something else. This was before they had the API, the developers program, or certified providers. We use all those now and work with them before we do anything to avoid something like this happening.
Thank you for the responses Jeff.
My question was also answered very quickly when I put in a Support request.

Looking on the Ebay Boards there is a lot of fear, anger and frustration about recent changes within Ebay UK.
Something like this coming along just tends to "Light the blue touch paper".
It doesn't help that someone rang Ebay for guidance and were told that the Links ARE illegal under Ebay rules. Post #67 HERE

If Ebay would come and give us something in writing (as you have done) on the Boards it would help everyone concerned.

I love the Auctiva Software but I do feel worried about using it now.
Also, you can't get rid of Kickitback on already Listed Auctions. Even if you Edit out the Counter it still appears if a potential buyer clicks on the Auction Image to get an enlarged view.
I have also tried to say No Counter, but still the Kick It Back counter is on my listings. I checked NO everywhere I could find except one place that said hidden (but that was not Kick It Back). Is there a solution yet for this? When a lot of folks are saying they've already checked No Counter and the only response is, "Go check off No Counter," there must be a problem somewhere.

Thanks in advance.
First let me say that I have "breezed" over these posts. I have only used Auctive a few times and admit I have alot to learn about the service. My question is not about my listing being pulled but about why the KIB counter appeared on my eBay created auction? I went into ebay and requested No counter and refreshed and that took away the ebay counter (at the top) but teh KIB counter was still there. Like I said - I did not even create this particular auction using Auctive, so how is it that an Auctiva counter made its way into this auction? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!!
I've yet to see a single ended listing from this and we do 20 million counters. There is that one rotten thread on the ebay.UK boards that have spawned this whole mess. And even that listing was taken down for an unknown reason. It's silly to assume this is the reason given that we're in 20 million listings and eBay picks that 1 listing, and only it?????

Even if 1 person had 1 listing ended I doubt that would mean much more than an over zealous eBay support person not knowing what they're doing.

eBay rarely puts things in writing. Sorry. I just don't see a low level message board pink putting any type of such statement up. They always like to hedge. It's pathetic, but that's the way it is.

Literally everything we do requires written approval from them, but guess how often we've received that in 10 years? Oh they'll tell you over the phone or in person. But they almost never write it down. Cover their a**. That company is all politics and nobody there wants to say anything that could get them in trouble with anyone else. It's asinine.
Jeff,

I really appreciate your polite responses to the eBay issue with the counter that others are having, but is there a way to get rid of the counter?

As I said above, I've checked No everywhere I can find and that hasn't worked. I posted here rather than doing a help ticket because it seemed to be a common issue others were having.

Thanks again. All the people I've dealt with in my very brief time with Auctiva have been just fabulous. You have great CS.
Over the past 3 - 4 days I have been selecting 'hidden' counters. I assumed these were 'friendly' counters, just like ebay counters or something. So I just went to one of my auctions to see how they look. Not bad, I was OK w/ it until I went to register w/ kickitback.com

I was all registered (99%) and then I read their terms of service. A few parts I did not like so I am not going to register afterall. This is what I didn't like:

Fees and Payment
KickItBack reserves the right to charge fees for certain services. KickItBack further reserves the right to alter any and all fees and cash rewards from time to time, without notice. (without notice??)

The information collected may include the following: email, name, IP address, browser information and more. Any comments or questions you submit are recorded as well. Also, comments about you as a seller or buyer will be collected and may be viewable by other clients. Collection of information takes place at various times while navigating KickItBack’s site and using its software. When entering KickItBack’s site, information may be collected about previous sites the person has viewed.

So, this is in effect SPYWARE as well. As soon as that Internet Explorer 8 comes out I will download and install that and NO ONE will be able to see what sites I've viewed!
But Jeff, you know eBay has the perogative to change their minds at any time!

So when they do, how does Auctiva plan to remove 20,000,000 counters?

I mean, I have that I accept checks and money orders in all my 900 store items/auctions and now I have to remove all those ONE BY ONE or get shut down!

And this ain't the first time something like this has happened. 2 years ago I had over 1,000 items shut down because it stated that I accepted CASH (which you USED to be allowed to say in your auctions) but eBay CHANGED THIER MIND.
Is there any way to simply activate the eBay counter on a Listing as opposed to using the kick it back counter?

Currently I am selection "no counter" in the Auctiva setup and then logging in to eBay to manually revise each Listing to add the default counter there.

Is there a selection within the Auctiva Listing editor that I am unaware of that will invoke the eBay default counter when listed?
OK, so apparently there is absolutely NO WAY to list an item without the Kick It Back counter showing up. I selected " No Counter" thinking that I would simply manually add the eBay basic counter after the item went up, but when I went to the active listing the KIB counter was there. Remember, I selected "No Counter" option in the Auctiva setup and I still got the KIB counter in the Listing. What the heck am I doing wrong? Can anyone help me with this please? At this point all I want is to simply not have the KIB counter included on the active Listing and I will manually add the eBay counter since it is apparently not able to be invoked from Auctiva.
Well this will not go well but here goes..
First off what is wrong with you guys? There is nothing I see wrong with the counter at all.
It works fine for me and I can not see there is any violation of any kind with e-bay.
If this service helps us keep this service free then I am all for it and I hope Auctiva makes a ton of money on it. I am using this service and have had almost no problems with it at all.
I have tried most of the pay services and keep coming back here as the pictures are far better and the service is easy to use and my listing go very smoothly.
I sure don't want to tell any of you what to do but if it were me I would put all this energy into my business and not worry about the small things. It seems all I read on these boards is griping and moaning about one thing or another, all this does is to take away from your business and keep you preoccupied from the task at hand making money.
I for one want to say thanks Auctiva for giving a great service and keeping it free and feel free to use my listing for your counters and I hope you do well with them.
Keep up the great work..
Thanks,
Doug
what doug said.

i don't see what all the hoopla is about over this. it's simply another tool that auctiva offers that you can choose to use or not. i understand the frustration when you are trying to DISABLE something and it doesn't want to disable. that seems to be what is bothering most people. ..but what is the big deal about having this displayed anyway? i don't get the rudeness over this. i hope auctiva STAYS free because i really appreciate the services provided here.
Im still testing this but this is what I did to remove the counter

I had to go into my account Auctiva and disable the sellathon counter. Then I listed and marked no kick counter and it did not appear on the listing. I then reactivated the sellathon counter and tried no kick counter and it did appear on the listing. I will try this one more time and see if it happens again. Personally I like the counter it looks cool
I can confirm that the method I mentioned above does remove the kick counter. Personally I am going to use it. Maybe if some people spent less time complaining and used common sense they could solve there own problems. Ive been using auctiva for over a year now - 5000+ listings and almost 20,000 images. Of all the problems they have had there has been only 1 time I could not list. I always found a solution to work around the errors. I just hope the negative attitudes of some sellers aren't the same that buyers on ebay are seeing.
I've had listings cancelled too for inappropriate links. I did wonder which ones then I came across this discussion by accident whilst looking for something else.

Interestingly, I checked the 10 listings that were cancelled, Some had the Kick it Back Counter on, some had the original Sellathon Counter.

The last batch of listings I had cancelled was for "not displaying business information". The listings did show the info - it was an over zealous Ebay employee according to Ebay Support.

I'm going to ring them again tomorrow to see what the exact problem was this time so hopefully this should be sorted sooner rather than later.
Well, I guess I'll add my 2 cents to the discussion. I thought I'd mention that I filed a support case about this because I was simply surprised at seeing the KickitBack link/ad in my listings, without having received a heads up about it from Auctiva or knowing what it was.

I too, with Rubberduck, would appreciate understanding exactly what it is. I have no idea what it is.

The response I received from Brandon at support was that they were sorry for not informing us, but it is something they now need to include to help keep Auctiva free for us. While I completely understand the need for something like that, and LOVE Auctiva and all it provides, and support things that keep it that way, I humbly suggested to Brandon that next time we just be informed prior to a change like that since, as sellers, we're ultimately responsible for the content of our ads. And information ahead of the fact might have relieved stress for many.

I have checked off No counter, etc. on my set ups , no sellathon, etc. and the link is still there on new listings anyway - when one goes to a super size image.

Brandon said there was no way to give us the option of not having it.

"KickItBack reserves the right to charge fees for certain services. KickItBack further reserves the right to alter any and all fees and cash rewards from time to time, without notice."

That's from the terms and conditions of the kickitback website.

This may cause problems with buyers if they suddenly are charged for the services you advertised on your listing.

That's my only problem with this service.
I'm new to Auctiva and liking it so far, but I have a query about the kickitback counter - thought I would add it to this thread!

It appears that all my listing have both the kickitback counter AND the ebay counter, and that they don't tally - am I missing something? Also, it says "NA" under hits on the listings page in Auctiva - is there a way to get this number to show?
